JANE PHILLIPS, Regular Giving and Lottery Manager at the Firefighters Charity

Jane’s fundraising career started over eleven years ago when she was involved in Schools Fundraising and Community Fundraising. For the last 5 years she has worked for The Fire Fighters Charity where she organized a number of large fundraising events. More latterly she has manages the regular giving scheme within the charity and The Fire Fighters Lottery. She is responsible for ensuring all Gift Aid is claimed on events, regular giving and donations and has recently undertaken a project to obtain Gift Aid declarations retrospectively for all donors on the charity database.

ERIC GROUNDS, Director of Fundraising at Sue Ryder Care

Eric professes himself to be absolutely dedicated to Tax-Effective Giving. Upon arrival at Sue Ryder care, he undertook the task of recovering Gift Aid on past donations that had previously been overlooked and successfully reclaimed £600,000 for the charity. Sue Ryder Care pioneered the tax recovery on donated items in their shops. This alone has added £1 million a year to their income. Eric is keen to offer other charities advice on implementing this simple scheme.

JACK GILBERT, Fundraising Consultant at the Scout Association

Jack excels in helping Scout groups with all aspects of their fundraising. He took control of and was responsible for their implementation of the new Gift Aid scheme in 2000. His success in this venture is proven by the fact that of 5000 Scout Groups across the country, 70% are now claiming Gift Aid on membership fees and donations. He is now keen to offer advice to and help similar organisations to maximise their income.

IAN CLARK, Stewardship, Church of England.

Ian started using tax-effective methods of giving over 30 years ago, and has been involved in fundraising through planned giving, Gift Aid, legacies, shares etc ever since. After a career as a professional management consultant, he now works for the Church of England. Collectively the parish churches and cathedrals are easily the largest fundraiser in the UK, and collect about 10% of all the Gift Aid tax refunds made by the taxman. Interests include family history, killer sudoku, reading thrillers and investing.

BILL LEWIS, Consultant at Bates, Wells and Braithwaite Solicitors

Bill has a wealth of experience of all charity tax matters and is fluent in the workings of Gift Aid. He has been working as a consultant at Bates, Wells and Braithwaite’s Solicitors since 2002, specialising in Charity taxation. He also works part time at the Charities Aid Foundation and the charity scope and commercial organisations. He plays an active role in Gift Aid reviews and regularly negotiates with the HMRC about Gift Aid audits, so has a full understanding of their requirements. His broad knowledge of the subject makes him well placed to answer all your audit queries.

RICHARD BALDWIN, Tax Consultant at Deloitte

Richard Baldwin of Deloitte is Chairman of the CASC Development Forum established in 1999 to secure tax concessions for voluntary sports clubs. The Forum was successful in persuading the Government to introduce the Community Amateur Sports Club scheme in 2002 and has been instrumental in the successful development of it.5,000 clubs are now registered generating cash benefits to date of nearly £50mn (Deloitte estimate). Richard has advised charities and non profit sports organisations for the last 30 years and continues to lobby Government with proposals to improve tax incentives for these organisations.

Katie Johnson – Information and Mentoring Officer, Institute of Fundraising

Katie is the giftaidhelp.org site administrator. Since joining the Tax-Effective Giving team at the institute of Fundraising, she has become well versed in Gift Aid processes and has a broad knowledge of the problems facing voluntary organisations in implementing a successful Gift Aid scheme.
