Gift aid for 'adopt a brick' scheme

Postby lincolndrillhall on Tue Mar 30, 2010 12:28 pm

Hi,
We're an arts centre owned by a charity and we're about to launch an 'adopt a brick' style fundraising scheme where people can dedicate a brick or have a favourite quote or lyric displayed on it. We're wondering if we can ask people to agree to Gift Aid for this kind of scheme?
Many thanks for your help,
Sarah

Dear Sarah,

Thank you for your query.

The only way you could claim Gift Aid on this scheme, is if people could adopt a brick without having to donate any money... If this is the case, then the money given would be seen as a donation and so you could claim Gift Aid (providing the donor is eligible and you have declarations). If not, then the money would be a payment to dedicate a brick and therefore, not eligible for Gift Aid.

I hope this helps.

Sarah.
